Our specialists were the first to create the semiconductor-based computer for Soviet Union together with the automatic control systems used for USSR era space projects. Ukraine was a major benefactor of the space industry in former soviet times, and its Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences contributed more than 40 percent of all scientific researches.
Kharkiv, the second largest city in the country, turned out from a small defense block post into one of the biggest scientific technology business and industrial hub of Ukraine. It also became the location for most IT outsourcing services providers and subsidiaries of reputable western IT and product companies, with services that include web, desktop, database applications, manufacturing ERP, e-commerce systems , games and mobile systems development etc.
Ukraine has been delivering software development services since earliest 1990's. Its strength comes from a refocusing of highly educated scientific workforce after the fall of the Soviet Union. It currently has around 4,000 IT companies operating in its offshore development centers in Kharkiv, Kiev, and other ukrainian megalopolises, with a market volume of about $5 billion. Most of the companies situated in Ukraine excel in the areas of scientific and creative research and development.
